Day 9
Ushuaia, Argentina
Woke up and the ship was already at port, at "fin del mundo", End of the World, or the southernmost city of South America, so it is claimed.
It was cloudy at breakfast turning into a quick shower. Again fortunately for us, by the time we met up and had our stretching exercise, it turned to a sunny day with some clouds.
The town looks beautiful from the ship. You can see the entire town stretching up the mountain right from the water. A line of snow-cap mountain top provides a perfect background to the town. Not sure what is going to happen when it snows with the streets running almost straight down to the seaside.
On closer inspection after we got to shore, the town looks much rougher with broken sidewalks, piles of dirt and car parks right next to monuments. It didn't help with a strike going on seemingly blocking some streets, or perhaps we were too early to see the hustle and bustle of the street vendors.
Not much sleep most nights finally catching up to me and I slept the afternoon away and missed the departure from port. I will catch it next time.
We continued along the Beagle Channel and had a chance to see the glaciers that actually come all the way to the water. Didn't really think about that before. The ship did a 360 in the channel right next to the glacier so everybody can see. That was neat except everyone rushes out in the middle of the dinner to take pictures anyway.
